When trying to organize a particular area in your home or office, visit a place that sells the items that you are trying to organize. Look at the manner in which the items are displayed and stored, then try to duplicate that organizational system using storage products that you can purchase inexpensively. THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX AND DO NOT RESTRICT YOURSELF TO TRADITIONAL STORAGE METHODS.
Example: You have an abundance of books, but no bookcase in which to store them. Well, who needs a bookcase? Go to your local hardware store and purchase a 6' wooden ladder and a couple of pieces if 1" x 12" pine. They usually come in 6 or 8 foot lengths. Open the ladder and measure the distance between the rungs on the two opposite sides of the ladder. Be sure to add a few extra inches to each measurement (I usually go with 6 inches for each board). Most hardware stores will cut the wood for you if you ask. Place the 1" x 12" pieces horizontally on parallel rungs, going from one side of the ladder to the other. Viola! Instant bookcase!
If you are feeling extra crafty, pick up some stain or paint and varnish and go to town.
