Lori's Lessons
The Wild WE's Administrative Director shares some of the business lessons she's learned over the years.
As a Wild Women Entrepreneur, you're fully aware of the importance of networking, sharing golden nuggets of information and expanding your sphere of influence. In this light, I want to share a few of "Lori's Lessons," or rules of business which I practice every day.
Lori's Lesson #1: It Comes Down to 2 Words -- Customer Care
As a Professional Virtual Assistant (VA), my main concern is the level of Customer Care we provide to our clients. (Note: I currently have a staff of 10 independent contractors, and 65 clients.) Notice I capitalized the words "Customer Care," doing so because the topic is THAT important. If you're in a service industry like I am, and you rely on clients to purchase your services to keep you in business, you MUST understand the importance of delivering killer Customer Care, each and every day you're in business.
Flip the tables for a minute and think about your horrible Customer Care experiences: waiting on hold on the telephone for too long; the not-so-helpful clerk at the retail store; the waiter or waitress who's ignoring you, etc. Do you give your business and hard-earned money to those companies which don't deliver killer Customer Care? Probably not. Keep this in mind as you sell YOUR services and business. Everyone wants the most bang-for-the-buck, and part of that "bang" is the Customer Care experience.
Lori's Lesson #2: Be a "Guerilla"
No, no ... not the actual animal! I mean "guerilla" in terms of how you approach your sales pitch. Look, there are hundreds of Virtual Assistance firms out there and all of them are my competition. But guess what? I'm probably the most aggressive VA you'll ever meet and I am not afraid to let the world know about DavisVA. I'm not pushy when I pitch potential clients; however, I am very honest when I tell a potential client that DavisVA is THE premier VA firm in the nation, that we deliver killer Customer Care and do so with the most competitive rates in the industry. I also issue a challenge to each new potential client: I challenge them to complete their VA research and dare them to find another VA provider as qualified as Davis Virtual Assistants. Nine times out of 10, that potential client will come back to me and say, "Lori, you're right on the money ... DavisVA is worth my time and money."
Lori's Lesson #3: Understand the "Pain" and Solve It
ALL business owners, myself included, have some type of "pain" which they need to address in their business model. Examples of "pain" include lack of organization, not enough team players on the sales staff, lack of a reliable receptionist, etc. You, dear business owner, must listen and look between the lines to get to the pain and more important, address how YOU and YOUR company can solve the business owner's pain.
Lori's Lesson #4: Be Honest About Your Capabilities
I know too many folks in business who claim they can handle a particular task and yet, when the chips are down and it's the 11th hour, they fail to come through on their promises. My advice? Don't be like those folks! Be honest about your capabilities and the types of tasks you can handle. There's nothing worse than a bad rep in business and trust me when I say you'll get a bad reputation very quickly if you promise things which you cannot deliver.
Now, it's YOUR turn ... I want you to share with me, and your fellow Wild Women Entrepreneurs, some things you've learned in business, be it good, bad or ugly.
Wildly yours,
Lori Davis Wild Women Entrepreneurs Administrative DirectorLabels: board member, business success, lori davis
